Undertow is a magazine design that aims to return a travel publication to its counter-culture roots. To achieve this, a cover concept was developed to suggest a tearing away of glitz to reveal a more provocatively surreal scene. The design of its featured article, “Secret City”, emphasizes the radiantly macabre nature of its historical content. The periodical as whole should leave readers unsettled in all the best ways.
